Why is exercise good for you
Exercise, aside from our food consumption is the most important thing to curing many ailments. It can prevent and even reverse heart disease and can help people recover from certain types of cancers.
Exercise helps with arthritis and even diabetes and has a tendency to lower blood sugar and high blood pressure. The type of exercise you do benefits you in different ways but any kind is better than doing nothing.
So what kind of training is best suited for you? What would be an activity that is beneficial to your health as well as enjoyable? Here is a list of a few:
These exercises can be done with or without machines. When at the gym you are more likely to use equipment such as treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical machines, step masters and the like. Outdoor training is done without machines unless you consider a bicycle a machine. You can jog, swim, cycle, or play any sport that will get your heart pumping such as soccer, basketball, or tennis amongst others.
Cardiovascular training is an important component of general conditioning. It has to do with exercises the strengthen the heart, lungs and circulatory system. You should do cardio type exercises for at least 30 minutes three times a week. Some people combine both cardio and strength training in one training session. Thirty minutes of say the treadmill and then an hour of weights. If this is too long you can do cardio on your off days.
Weight training is great for body toning and when combined with cardio it is one of the best ways to lose weight and slim down. You must be careful when training with weights especially in the beginning. The best way to start is with a trainer. They will show you the proper way to perform the exercises, and how many times a week you train for optimum results.
Get a physical from your doctor before starting a weight-training program. This is especially important if you are overweight and haven’t exercised in a while.
You must start slow and build yourself up. Even if you have trained before and are coming back after a long absence it would be wise to start from a lower point.
Sports is a great way to get fit and have fun. Sports can be played indoors and out. You can play competitively in a team, or with just one other player. Competition doesn’t even have to be part of the equation, just do it for the fun of it. And then there are sports or physical activities that you can do all by yourself. Sports are better enjoyed outdoors, but the weather can be a factor.
So what are the benefits of working out? Why should you get up off that nice warm couch or that warm bed in the morning and schlep yourself to the gym in order make yourself sweat and many times push yourself to exhaustion?
Exercise can help in lowering blood pressure. Regular physical activity makes your heart stronger. Your heart thereby doesn’t work as hard to pump blood and a strong heart can pump more blood with less effort. If your heart works less to pump, the pressure on your arteries decreases thus lowering your blood pressure. There is much more to it than that but this is an explanation in a simplified form.
Endurance is another great reason. Stronger muscles mean you can remain active longer without feeling tired. Imagine climbing a set of stairs with little effort. Your legs, being strong, take away the stress from your heart. You don’t push and stress up those stairs. And if your heart is in great shape because of the cardio you will find yourself springing up those set of stairs.
